whale hunting is a very old tradition in Norway.

It started
centuries
ago, and was carried out through the old whaling days until the IWC
moratorium, which made Norway to practice "research whaling" for a
while.
The country has since registered an objection to the IWC's moratorium
and has returned to commercial whaling.
Limited
numbers of Minke Whales
are taken in different areas in north eastern Atlantic.
