Just behind the Channel Islands, Santa Barbara is known for excellent whale spotting opportunities.

The seasonal migrats, the gray whales, can be seen between February and April.
Humpback, minke and blue whales can be seen between May and September.
In other times, you can see killer whales; if you are lucky - right whales; and many different species of dolphins.
There are many different tour operators who take you out to the ocean.
